Type One Cares – Charity
Type One Cares is dedicated to expanding and improving our support for individuals and families affected by type 1 diabetes in the South Shore community of Massachusetts. Our commitment involves providing crucial funding for type 1 diabetes research to work toward finding a cure. Additionally, we strive to ensure that those living with the disease receive the necessary support and resources to not only survive but also thrive and pursue their aspirations.
At Type One Fitness, we actively promote long-term lifestyle changes by emphasizing the importance of exercise and nutrition for overall well-being. Our unique features, services, and amenities are designed to empower individuals to make positive and lasting changes in their lives.
We offer a range of exercise options, including aerobic and anaerobic activities, strength and flexibility training, and cardio exercises like running, jogging, or brisk walking. These activities not only provide health benefits but also contribute to an improved quality of life for those who participate.
For those living with diabetes, the advantages of regular exercise are significant. Exercise contributes to weight management, lowers blood pressure, reduces harmful LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, increases healthy HDL cholesterol, strengthens muscles and bones, alleviates anxiety, and enhances general well-being. Specifically for individuals with diabetes, exercise plays a crucial role in lowering blood glucose levels and improving the body’s sensitivity to insulin, countering insulin resistance.
Research for a Cure
We support the life changing research of the Faustman Lab at Massachusetts General Hospital as they lead the way toward a cure for type 1 diabetes.
Diabetes Management and Treatment Assistance
Diabetes management and treatment is expensive. New onset patients spend about $1,400 on education and appointment fees. Pump Therapy can create better control but can cost up to $1,200 each month. Insulin for children can cost about $300 a month. Testing six to eight times a day is normal, and all those test strips add up to about $300 a month. The cost can be debilitating for many families and going without insulin is not an option. We provide qualifying recipients with assistance for these costs.
T1D Camp for a Child
We’ve partnered with the Barton Center for Diabetes Education, one of the largest, independent camping and educational programs in the country dedicated to children who live with diabetes and the people who care for them. We provide scholarships for local children living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) to attend a week of residential camp in the summer.
We provide ten $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors from around the South Shore community to support advanced studies at any college, university, or technical institution.
Type One Fitness
Type One Fitness is a boutique fitness center with a unique focus on diabetes wellness that is open to everyone.
